"Shape Your Space: Newton Community Centre"

About the Project

We are developing a new multi-purpose community centre in Newton for residents to socialize, exercise, learn and play. It will be a place where the community can enjoy a fun, inclusive, and healthy environment.

The new state-of-the-art community recreation centre will be on a 6.5-acre site at 6965 King George Boulevard. The multi-phase facility has the potential to provide expanded aquatic, cultural, library, and recreation opportunities to the Newton community.

Help us Shape your Space

Where can the public see plans for the new facility? Is the a scheduled completion date? What is the project scope and budget?

Jeff asked almost 2 years ago

Schematic design has begun and will be shared with the public for input within the next few months. City of Surrey Council approved the initial $100M investment that will include a 10 lane 50m swimming pool, leisure and water attractions, childcare and fitness. The facility will be designed with provisions for future additions of other community services such as a branch library, recreation centre and culture spaces. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.

Will the facility be accommodating working women that are 55 + for the exercise schedules? I was able to try a daytime class when I was off work during Spring Break. However, typically I work Monday to Friday and can not attend a daytime class and would prefer a class in the late afternoon to evening.

Katrina asked about 2 years ago

Thanks for your comment. The full range of programs offered will be determined closer to when the building is operational.

The City of Surrey is committed to making all our facilities accessible, and this building will be no different. Learn all the ways we're committed to accessibility here: https://www.surrey.ca/about-surrey/accessibility

My nephew joined a swim academy in Park Royal, and they have a beautiful stainless steel pool. Do you consider a stainless steel alternative for the pools?

Peter asked about 2 years ago

Thank you for the question and the information about Stainless-Pools products. We are aware of the stainless steel pools technology and have physically seen a few example pools. At this time, we do not anticipate changing the technology we have for our community pools.

Is it possible the have a couple of squash courts? There are currently none in all of City of Surrey facilities and those spaces can be used for many other activities other than just squash such as atomic volleyball

B Salary asked about 2 years ago

The design has not yet been determined, but we're taking community input into consideration and thank you for contributing your ideas.
