Why is this pilot project happening?
The project aims to test the feasibility of allowing dogs on leashes on the path during the summer months, based on public interest and previous requests.
Are dogs allowed in other areas of Crescent Beach Park?
No, dogs are not allowed in other areas of Crescent Beach Park. However, users can take the dog on-leash Crescent Beach Path to dog off-leash Blackie Spit area, which is adjacent to Crescent Beach Park. However, dogs are not allowed in the Blackie Spit Environmentally Sensitive Area.
Were dogs allowed before?
In 2022, a similar pilot project allowed dogs on leashes on the path before 9:00 am and after 7:00 pm. However, many people didn't follow these time rules. Now, the city wants to try again without time restrictions, but only on weekdays.
Are there time restrictions during the pilot project?
No, there are no specific time restrictions during the pilot project. Dogs on leashes are allowed on the path throughout the day on weekdays only.
How will the city monitor the pilot project?
City staff will monitor the use of the path and record information on usage. Feedback from the public and community stakeholders will also be collected through the survey and via email.
How is this being funded?
Funding for this pilot project is available within the approved 2025 Parks Division Operating Budget.
What happens after the pilot project ends?
After the pilot project ends, staff will review the feedback and observations collected during the trial. A summary report with recommendations will be presented to the Council for further action.
