What is a Park Plan?
A Park Plan is a long-term planning document that guides the future development and improvement of a park. It outlines a vision, goals, and strategies based on community input, technical analysis, and city priorities. For Unwin Park, the Plan will help determine what amenities to include, how spaces should be organized, and how accessibility, sustainability, and recreation needs can be addressed over time. It ensures that future upgrades are coordinated, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of Surrey residents.
Why do we need a Plan for Unwin Park?
Unwin Park is a well-loved 15-hectare park in Newton, Surrey, offering a wide range of amenities including sports fields, playgrounds, a water park, and more. However, many of these amenities are outdated, underutilized, or in need of improvement. Over time, adjacent parcels of land have been acquired to support future growth. A park plan is needed to guide the redevelopment of the park in a way that reflects community needs, addresses accessibility challenges, and ensures the park continues to serve residents effectively into the future.
Why are you engaging the community? How can I be involved?
Community engagement is essential to ensure the master plan reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of park users. Unwin Park serves a wide range of individuals and groups, and your input will help shape its future. You can get involved by participating in public surveys, attending engagement events, and sharing your feedback through the Engage Surrey platform. Stay tuned for updates on how to participate in each round of engagement.
What is the purpose of three phases of engagement?
The three phases of engagement are designed to gather input at key stages of the planning process:
This phased approach ensures that community input is gathered throughout the development of the plan.
How will my feedback be used?
Your feedback will directly inform the design and priorities of the park plan. Insights from surveys, open houses, workshops, and public comments will be analyzed and incorporated into concept plans, design guidelines, and final recommendations. The goal is to create a park that reflects the values and needs of the community.
Will the Unwin Park Plan include indoor facilities and recreational programs?
Yes. The Unwin Park Plan will consider indoor facilities, specifically upgrades to the existing fieldhouse currently used by senior residents. While the plan focuses primarily on outdoor amenities, the fieldhouse presents an opportunity to enhance indoor accessibility and programming. Community feedback will help guide how this space can better serve diverse user groups in the future.
