Acorn Park

We’re planning a new park!

Located at 58A Avenue and 142 Street, Acorn Park is 1.6 ha (3.9 ac) including portions under the hydro right-of-way across 58A Ave. Located in the South Newton neighbourhood, this area will benefit from a new public green space. Our goal is to create a space where people of all ages and abilities can play, explore, and connect, supported by accessible pathways that link the park to the surrounding community.

Project phasing

Acorn Park is being delivered in two phases so residents can begin using portions of the park sooner while the remaining amenities are completed. Phase 1 focuses on improvements within the BC Hydro corridor, including pathways, open space, seating, and the pilot leash-optional area. Phase 2 will include the playground, multi-sport court, gathering spaces, picnic shelter, and other park amenities.

Planning phase

The planning phase is now complete! Based on the city's strategic plans, some active amenities were preselected:

• Multi-sport court: According to the City's Outdoor Sport Court Strategy, this neighbourhood is a key location for a multi-sport court. This includes a fenced court with basketball, hockey, and soccer nets to support a range of activities.
• Playground: Since the nearest park playground is more than 500 meters away, a new playground will be included. Residents will be asked to choose the types of amenities they want in the playground, and the top selections will be featured.
• Leash-optional path: As outlined in the City's Dog Off-Leash Strategy, this park has been selected for a pilot leash-optional path. The path will be fence-lined but not gated and separated by 58A Ave. This pilot will allow users to provide feedback to the city based on the new style of dog amenity.

In addition, the City conducted public engagement to hear what features the community wanted. This feedback has been incorporated into the design of Acorn Park.
