Public engagement has concluded.

The City has completed a pilot that allowed on-leash dogs on Crescent Beach's walking path, on weekdays only (excluding Statutory holidays), from July 2 to September 15, 2025.

The goal was to see if allowing dogs on leash during the summer will work well for everyone. Dogs are usually only allowed on the path from September to May. Many people have asked to bring their dogs during the summer, so the city wanted to test it out. This pilot project aimed to find a balance that works for dog owners and other park visitors.

What we heard

Staff is working on a summary report of the feedback and responses from users of the pilot project. Once completed the report will provide recommendations for the area for Council to decide on the long-term decision.

Where is the Crescent Beach path?

The Crescent Beach path is in Crescent Beach Park. It runs along the oceanfront dyke on the north and west sides of the beach. Nearby, Blackie Spit has an off-leash dog beach and area.Map of Crescent Beach path
